Description

Jocks Lodge

From the moment we saw the strikingly beautiful front façade, we knew this home was going to be special. With features almost reminiscent of homes within the French Riviera, the fabric of this building which some parts are believed to date back to the 17th century, simply breathe cultural history.
Having been a wonderful family home for several decades, the current owners have sensitively restored and updated it throughout the years, adding more distinctive features to enhance the already palpable sense of elegance and finery.
Serene and spacious, the home’s three floors host many wonderful corners to potter and play, where the backdrop of sash windows, elegant French doors and muted warm tones entwine with the polished wooden floors and grand fireplaces.
Modern yet sympathetically designed to mould into the fabric of this home, the kitchen-family room has a real heart of the home feel, a special mention must go the to the oil fired Aga, which is not only absolutely stunning, it is also believed to be one of the oldest in the UK, dating back to the 1930’s. With plenty of space for every day dining and comfy areas to lounge, the log-burning stove evokes a hearty feel in the colder months whilst the array of elegant double doors allows outside to merge inside during the warmer seasons. The expansive sitting room has a much more regal feel to it, where you will find further space to dine whilst enjoying the grand open fire against the elegant backdrop of the terrace complete with ornate pond, a real show stopping view. The office is a wonderful work from space and the garden room offers yet more space to spread out into whilst still enjoying those enchanting garden views.
Three double bedrooms rest on the first floor, beautifully sprawled out beyond the large landing areas with the principal bedroom enjoying a large en-suite with both bath and shower to choose from, similar to that of the family suite which is shared between the remaining two double bedrooms on this floor. Rising to the top, the attic has been converted into a self-contained suite where you will find another en-suite shower room and plenty more storage, ideal for teenagers.

Outside...

Where do we start, there’s just so much to talk about! The gated sweeping driveway offers plenty of space to park and that’s in addition to the garaging, which consists of a double tandem length garage adjoined to a further single garage. Beyond the striking front façade, secret gardens littered with mapped pathways trail around the ornate pond which rests perfectly in symmetry with the wide array of French doors which lead next to the terrace. The lawned garden circles the garden room, shrouded in mature trees and established borders leading round to the well tendered vegetable patch and summer house.
The walled courtyard to the rear proves to be a real sun-trap in the warmer months and is edged by a charming row of brick outbuildings, great for more storage.

A little bit of History and some important bits…

Although Jocks Lodge is not a listed building, it certainly has some history behind it. Whilst the main stack is believed to date back to the 17th century, the façade appears to be 19th century where the house may have been shortened and then extended again.
Occupying an elevated position at the far end of the village, a public right of way can be found just opposite which will lead you directly to the river. The property is connected to the mains for drainage and benefits from oil fired central heating.

Franks Thoughts...

We really can’t say enough good things about this home to do it justice, especially when it comes to the striking front façade. It’s one of those you just HAVE to view…
